Guava, pawpaw and passionfruit aromas layered with grapefruit and a smoky green musk. Exotic. Fat tropical entry and a full round mid-palate packed with fresh gooseberry, mango and stone fruit. Poised and powerful with a hint of jalapeño and lingering spice on the finish. This Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc wine can be enjoyed with a variety of foods. Ideal partner for seafood.

    Description

People thought Josip Babich was crazy back in 1912. Planting vines in remote New Zealand, then patiently making wine the difficult way – with vision, thoughtfulness, ingenuity, and true craft. With no less than three generations of innovation, achievement and winemaking excellence across three outstanding winemaking regions, Babich wines have delighted wine drinkers around the world.

The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Black Label (Marlborough) is a broad, round, rich style. While there are classical notes of ripe passionfruit and subtle snow pea, the variety's naturally angular edges have been curved; a portion undergoes malolactic conversion, and there's also yeast and lees work to build texture. It's a more mellow expression of the variety while maintaining purity of fruit. There's good concentration, but a little more length and aromatic complexity would enhance it further.
