Buitenverwachting is a historic winery in the Constantia region of South Africa. Crafitng fine and elegant wines on some of the oldest soils to be found in a vineyard. Buitenverwachting, meaning ‘beyond expectation’, belongs to the Mueller family, who have lovingly restored both its buildings and its reputation for producing delicious wines.

Buitenverwachting’s Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot is a classic left bank Bordeaux style blend, with the juicy Merlot grape offsetting the more structured Cabernet perfectly. Grapes for this Bordeaux-inspired red yield from Buitenverwachting’s cool estate vineyards in Constantia, and the wine was aged for 24 months in second and third-fill French oak barrels, where it also underwent malolactic fermentation. Bright, stylish aromas of cassis, plums and pencil lead give way to a complex, structured palate that marries ripe fruit with mineral nuances and an aromatic, fragrant finish.
