The Catena wines are a special assemblage of High Mountain Estate Vineyards made by fourth generation vintner, Laura Catena and chief winemaker, Alejandro Vigil. Ripe, concentrated dark fruit aromas with delicate floral notes and traces of vanilla and mocha. Rich and lush on the palate, with concentrated black cherry and red currant flavours and notes of sweet spices, tobacco and a touch of leather. The palate has soft, supple tannins with a bright, crisp acidity and flinty minerality, giving the wine exceptional length. Try pairing with a Lasagne or beef stew.

    Description

Nicolas Catena Zapeta is an extremely deserved winner of a lifetime achievement award from the wine enthusiast. His seach for perfection and innovation helped put Argentina on the wine map and inspired a generation of Argentinian winemakers. However, it doesn’t just stop at Nicolas. His daughter, Dr Laura Catena, has taken charge of the estate and the name has gone from strength to strength under her stewardship. A medical doctor, winemaker and figure of inspiration, Laura is a one-off. She has become an icon in the world of wine and continues to push boundaries and make incredible wines.

The Catena approach has always been terroir first, which is how they have uncovered some of the finest land Argentina has to offer. The Addriana vineyard is thought of as the Grand Cru of South America – the wines from here are simply sensational.

Smooth, leather and light smoke, deep bing cherry and vanilla finish. Complexity for the price point is excellent. Fantastic

The excellent and floral 2019 Catena Malbec shows the typicity of the grape, violets and red berries, and the freshness of the year. It has the textbook aromas and a soft and velvety mouthfeel, with very fine grainy tannins.
92/100 - Luis Gutierrez, The Wine Advocate

A Malbec from Mendoza, made with grapes from the Uco Valley and Luján de Cuyo, that spent 12 months in French barrels. Purplish red in the glass. The nose features plums and herbs over a faint bed of wood and sweet spices. The soft, terse palate contains muscular, polished tannins that fully occupy the mouth. The freshness is key, bringing life without getting overly tense. A tasty wine.
91/100 - Joaquin Hidalgo, Vinous (Tasted August 2020)
