The key word for the 2002 vintage is precision, like an archer aiming from afar but reaching target with accuracy and agility. The wines have a very aromatic and soft attack, followed by a wonderful mouthwatering freshness. A sweet wine characterised by it’s refreshing acidity and vibrant fruity palate.

Description

The name Disznoko literally translates to the rock of the wild boar, and alludes to a large rock sat atop a small hill overlooking the vineyards. The estate is widely regarded as a ‘first growth’ Tokaji, and its 150 hectares, situated in the south west of the Tokaji region, were purchased back in 1992 by AXA Millésimes (owners of Château Pichon Longueville and Quinta do Noval) who have invested heavily and restored a once underperforming estate into one of Hungary’s finest Tokaji producers.

The wines have a very aromatic and soft attack, followed by a wonderful mouthwatering freshness. A sweet wine characterised by it’s refreshing acidity and vibrant fruity palate.

Tasted at the Disznoko tasting in London, the 2002 Tokaji Aszu 6 Puttonyos had an intense dried honey, lanolin and brown spice-scented bouquet that is very satisfying, later even a hint of Vervanne tea surfacing through the aromas. The palate is quite sweet on the entry (even for a 6 Puttonyos) with spice, gingerbread and lemon rind infusing the viscous texture. It is discretely moving into its secondary phase and should give another two decades of drinking pleasure without problem. This is a superb counterpart to the 5 Puttonyos this year.
