What is In Bond?

What does “In Bond” mean?

Wines sold ‘in bond’ do not include any alcohol duty or VAT. The bottles/cases must be stored in a bonded account with a HMRC registered professional storage facility, they cannot be ordered for home delivery.

When these wines are withdrawn from the bonded storage facility, the duty and VAT are then payable.

Samuel Billaud comes from a family of award winning, Chablis producers. In 2010, he decided it was time to leave the family business and start his own Domaine – he’s never looked back. The wines from Domaine Samuel Billaud are made from a mixture of his own vineyards and purahsed grapes, all from an average vine age of 40! Samuel is so well connected in Chablis that he is able to source some of the finest grapes from the top premier and grand cru vineyards. This top quality fruit, coupled with his wizadry in the cellar, is a winning formula.

The 2020 Chablis Vaillons Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru comes from 70-year-old vines and is aged entirely in tank. It has a crushed rock and Granny Smith apple nose, nicely focused and vibrant. The palate is fresh and taut with a fine bead of acidity, and lively and tensile toward the finish, which shows real sparkle even at this early stage. There is something a little understated about this elegant Vaillons.
