Penfolds white wine program, Bin 51 captures many of the attributes of the Eden Valley locale. The region’s high altitude and cool climate induces riesling with great finesse and elegance with a capacity for long-term cellaring. South Australia has gained worldwide recognition for producing world-class riesling and Eden Valley always features. In their youth, the wines possess scented floral and citrus aromas, with a mineral edge and marked natural acidity, contributing significantly to the palate texture and flavour.

An array of florals – white spring flowers and hints of fresh lime on the nose. A very lime – citrus driven palate augmented by just ripe Granny Smith apple, cucumber granita and traces of juniper berry. A vibrant riesling to enjoy alone of paired with an aromatic dashi.

    Description

The success of Penfolds has been driven by the generations of visionaries and innovators. From the beginning in 1844 to today, the merging of science, art and innovation has driven Penfolds to become one of Australia’s most famed and respected winemakers. However, Max Schubert is the real architect of Penfolds success. In spite of being instructed to ignore his new Grange project, Max perceviered and ultimately it proved to become the most iconic Australian wine available. Grange is the wine that catapulted Penfolds to where it is today, the most known and celebrated name in Australian wine.

Pale lemon. Medium on the nose with green apple and petrol. Dry, high acidity, medium body with pronounced citrus and medium on the finish.

Classic lime sherbet notes mark the nose of the 2018 Riesling Bin 51. It's leafy and fresh, then folds in hints of riper fruit on the palate, such as peach and pear. Crushed stone and wet moss give it a firm grounding in the earth as well. Crisp, lean and long, it shimmers with positive sunshine and energy, vibrant and lingering on the finish.
92/100 - Joe Czerwinski, The Wine Advocate

Pale yellow. Expressive pit and citrus fruit aromas are complemented by suggestions of pungent flowers and kerosene. Silky and focused on the palate, offering intense orange pit, white peach and pear flavors that become tighter on the back half. Shows strong, minerally persistence on the chewy finish, which echoes the pit fruit note.
92/100 - Josh Raynolds, Vinous (Tasted January 2021)
