Villa Maria’s 60 year journey at the forefront of New Zealand’s wine industry has shaped the company as it stands today. Our extensive portfolio is one the most geographically and stylistically diverse and highly-awarded range of premium wines by any New Zealand producer, fuelling consumer adoration and success across the globe.
Throughout the 1960s Villa Maria was a one-man band. In 1961, at just 21 years of age, Sir George Fistonich leased five acres of land from his father in Mangere, Auckland and started off with just an acre of vines. The first wine under the name Villa Maria in 1962 was made with grapes harvested from this block. Today, Villa Maria is a globally recognised and adored for its bold, expressive and exceptional New Zealand wines.
Villa Maria’s Cellar Selection range of wines are extremely food-friendly. The enticing varietal aromas and beautiful fruit-driven flavours make these wines an entertainer’s delight. Cellar Selection wines are made to share, making them the perfect accompaniment for dinner parties, or to be savoured at food and wine pairing evenings.
This wine originates from selected vineyards in the Awatere and Southern valleys of Marlborough made to reflect the individuality of their sites. Cellar Selection Marlborough Pinot Noir has subtle aromatics of dried herbs such as thyme and rosemary intermingled with red cherries and blackcurrants. On the palate, a subtle toasty hint of oak nicely frames the juicy fruit, earthy texture and velvety tannins. Classic Pinot Noir pairings include duck or lamb, but also matches well with roasted beet salad.
