Villa Maria only produce their reserve level wines in the best vintages. These wines receive VIP treatment from vineyard to bottle, and are highly sought after by wine enthusiasts world-wide.

This wine is crafted from a single vineyard named ‘Two Terraces’, a relatively cool inland site situated near Maraekakaho which is meticulously managed by the owners Ian and Linda Quinn. Hand harvesting and gentle whole-bunch pressing encouraged the finest quality juice from the outset. Cold settled, beautifully clear juice was carefully racked under inert gas cover to stainless steel tanks for cool fermentation with aromatic yeast strains. A brief period of maturation on yeast lees followed prior to blending of the individual parcels for finishing and bottling. On the nose there are intensely pure and expressive characters of ripe peach and citrus lime entwined with a subtle saline mineral complexity. The palate starts rich and concentrated before flowing to a long and sleek finish, where notes of lime brightly echo long after.

Description

Villa Maria’s 60 year journey at the forefront of New Zealand’s wine industry has shaped the company as it stands today. Our extensive portfolio is one the most geographically and stylistically diverse and highly-awarded range of premium wines by any New Zealand producer, fuelling consumer adoration and success across the globe.

Throughout the 1960s Villa Maria was a one-man band. In 1961, at just 21 years of age, Sir George Fistonich leased five acres of land from his father in Mangere, Auckland and started off with just an acre of vines. The first wine under the name Villa Maria in 1962 was made with grapes harvested from this block. Today, Villa Maria is a globally recognised and adored for its bold, expressive and exceptional New Zealand wines.
