Description
When Phil and Chris Rose needed to find a new career/business in the 70’s, they eventually decided to plant grapes. After battling some major objections around land use, Phil and Chris finally gained consent and started establishing their vineyards in 1978. In true pioneering spirit, they began hand planting vines and raising a family. After contract growing grapes for some years, they decided to produce their own wine in 1991 and the Wairau River label was born.
The Reserve range of wines are sourced from family vineyards across the Marlborough region. Small interesting parcels of grapes that have stood out in the vintage, from low yield bearing vines are packed full of flavour, and epitomise Marlborough.
A striking nose with layers of lemon and lime, cut herbs, floral notes and passionfruit. A portion of this wine underwent barrel fermentation giving weight in the mid-palate with aromas of toast and brioche leading to a complex, lengthy finish. A great pairing with a variety of seafood.
