Description
Yann Chave is one of our favourite winemakers in the Rhone valley. Following being poisoned by pesticides, Yann decided to convert the estate to Organic viticulture. Since 2007 they have been producing some of the best organic wines in the region.
Le Rouvre is made using the best grapes from Yann’s terraced Crozes Hermitage vineyards. There are Syrah vines that have grown here for over 50 years! These grapes are vinified with great care to preserve the natural aromas from the grapes. Blackcurrant, liquorice and flickers of white pepper are immediately obvious on the nose. The palate is structured with fine tannins and finishes with great finesse. Try serving with beef in a red wine sauce or even with oyster mushrooms.
CRITIC REVIEWS
Inky ruby. Lively cherry and blueberry scents are complemented by suggestions of baking spices, violet and olive paste. Smooth, focused and sweet, offering spice-laced black and blue fruit and floral pastille flavors that tighten up slightly on the back half. A zesty mineral note appears on the clinging finish, which is framed by supple, even tannins.
92/100 - Josh Raynolds, Vinous (Tasted September 2019)
Yann Chafe's 2017 Crozes Hermitage le Rouvre aged in gently used demi-muids (second and third use), acquiring a dusting of cedary pencil shavings and baking spices over its dark, plummy fruit. It's full-bodied and rich, with a degree of concentration and chewy tannins unusual for the appellation, giving it the potential to age for a decade or more.

Nose with blackcurrant, liquorice. Well structured with great concentration of fruit and a long finish.
