Yann Chave is one of our favourite winemakers in the Rhone valley. Following being poisoned by pesticides, Yann decided to convert the estate to Organic viticulture. Since 2007 they have been producing some of the best organic wines in the region.
Yann shows the utmost respect to the history of Hermitage when making his own. His work in the winery and vineyard is focused on chasing the ‘DNA’ of Hermitage. We think mission accomplished. Care is taken in the winery to prevent over-extraction and ageing in both oak and steel is used to round out the wine before bottling. This is a wine to decant before enjoying! The nose is subdued prior to aerationg but with time blackberry jam, liquorice, tobacco and vanilla aromas are revelaed. The palate is generous but supported by dense tannins and vibrant acidity. Pan-fried duck breast will work excellently with this Hermitage.
